Recommended outings and activities
Day drives
Many 4x4 enthusiats use Comfrey Cottage as a base to explore some of the highest passes in S.A. The drives up Joubert’s Pass or to Witfontein Dam and Spionkop also offer many scenic spots where you can enjoy sundowners or just take in the panoramic views and de-stress away from the buzz of city life.
Birdwatching
You could just relax in Comfrey’s garden and watch the abundant birdlife, or be more adventurous and head into the mountains or up Joubert’s Pass to spot some of the over 200 species that have been identified.
A visit to the Vulture breeding colony at the Karnmelkspruit Gorge is another special outing where you have the opportunity of viewing these impressive birds.
Mountain biking
The quiet farm roads around Lady Grey provide a variety of cycling routes, from casual exploring around town to the challenge of Joubert’s Pass and beyond. You are guaranteed of magnificent scenery, fresh mountain air and a cycling experience to remember.
Hikes and nature walks
There are numerous walks and day hikes to be explored. A pleasant walk to start with is the 5km to Lady Grey dam and back, which is set in an impressive sandstone gorge. You could also cross the stream at the end of our property and spend hours rambling around the mountain. Across town explore Spionkop for a different view over Lady Grey.
For the more energetic, follow the route of the Lammergeier Mountain Challenge and SkyRun that takes you to the peaks above Joubert’s Pass.
